Education

Virginia Tech '16, BA Economics, Magna cum laude

Experience

I was honored to be selected as the Most Outstanding Senior in Economics for the class of 2016 from over 300 graduates and I gave a speech at the commencement ceremony. I tutored all the way through college, mainly for economics courses. At the undergraduate level I have taken and received an "A" in the following courses (among others): Intermediate Microeconomic Theory Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory Econometrics NeuroEconomics Environmental Economics Middle Eastern Economics Law & Economics Intro to Microeconomics Intro to Macroeconomics Calculus I Calculus II Calculus III Linear Algebra Statistical Methods I want to be a tutor because I think there are few better feelings than when something a student has been struggling with "clicks". It's a sensation I have experienced many times, and I'm still chasing it on a daily basis. I want to make sure that you have a level of understanding that YOU are comfortable with. The beauty of one-on-one tutoring is that every experience is tailored. Every person doesn't learn in the same way, which doesn't lend well to the classroom environment. My goal is to have whatever you are struggling with "click" in your mind. Once it starts happening, it's hard to stop seeking the feeling. I hope that during our time together we can optimize the specific subject at hand while also uncovering lessons about your own learning style that will help in the future. I am also an experienced LSAT teacher and student, having spent over 1000 hours in preparation from the test, and eventually being admitted to Vanderbilt and Georgetown Law Schools among others. I took my score from average (50th percentile) at diagnostic to 95th percentile on test day. The LSAT is a very learnable test and I can help you obtain your goal score.

Hobbies

I am a student of life that has dabbled in nearly every academic subject, both in school and out. It's a personal goal of mine to always have a recent book to recommend, both fiction and non-fiction, at any time that I'm asked. In the past my hobbies have included woodworking, painting, welding, skateboarding, car repair, cooking, and playing musical instruments. Lately I've been spending my free time in the garden, with a book, or with my guitar. A favorite activity of mine for years that I credit for much of my intellectual curiosity is listening to podcasts. Nowadays there are podcasts on any subject you can imagine and I love the idea of learning about history or hear a story while I'm in the car or at the grocery store. Podcasts are free, so give them a try! Some of my favorites are: Serial S-Town Freakonomics Planet Money The Tim Ferris Show Revisionist History RadioLab /FilmCast FiveThirtyEight Politics Feel free to reach out with any questions or comments on podcasts, books, music, or anything else really. I love to learn and I'm always looking to hear from people who feel the same way.
