Private tutor in Nashville, TN

Education

B.A. in Philosophy from Boston University, 2013 Graduated from Riverdale Country School, private prep school in New York City

Experience

- 770 SAT Verbal - 700 SAT Writing - 700 SAT Math - Peer Leader for 7th Grade students during my 11th and 12th grade years. Provided life advice and moral guidance for these students during their transition into adolescence. Why I want to be a Tutor: I would like to teach elementary school students Mathematics, Reading and Writing, because I am a fan of the learning process, and find it so rewarding to help another human being discover that their mental capacities extend further than they realized. I would like to instill in children a sense of self-esteem with regard to schoolwork, so that they will be prepared for the challenges ahead of them, never believing that anything is "too hard for them." I hope to teach them that having a healthy mind, and a courage to apply it, is all they need to succeed in life. I am an aspiring songwriter, but if you asked me why I want to be in music, I'd tell you, "because I want to be an educator." As an unknown artist, I can think of no more rewarding and enjoyable way to earn my living at this stage in my life than to be a tutor. I very much look forward to having children of my own, and to being amazed at the speed of their growth and the boundlessness of their curiosity.

Hobbies

I have spent the last year or so working at various jobs, including cafe and retail work, and in my free time have been writing songs and seeking inspiration in the extraordinary history of civilization, European civilization in particular. I study classic paintings, music, and texts during my spare time, and recently engaged myself with a study of the evolution of thought and art during the Renaissance. During this investigation I discovered that it is little more than our belief or disbelief in ourselves that enables or discourages us from achieving great things. I am a fan of all things timeless, and also thoroughly enjoyed Disney's "Frozen," and Dreamworks' "How To Train Your Dragon," which are the most recent steps in a long evolution of thought and artistic expression. I think it is clear that every child is born with a profound wonder at the world, and believe that it is my job to preserve that sense of awe while making the mysterious become clear. I sing and play the saxophone, as well as some piano and guitar.
