Experience
I have been a teacher for twenty-five years. This experience, along with the time I spent learning, has been the greatest opportunity I have been given. When I was a student, I was impacted by great teachers. There are four generations of educators in my family. Two of them were my dad and my grandma. They both influenced me in a big way and sparked my love of learning because they showed their love for teaching. When I was young, I struggled in academics. My dad and grandma taught me to have a desire to try, which is just the push I needed to reach my educational goals. My mom and other grandma were not teachers, but they taught me character. My grandma did not go to school past third grade. She taught me how to follow directions. Mom taught me that having trusting relationships within your community and family is vital to learning how to live and thrive outside of school.Even though I valued my time learning, I eventually became a teacher. I learned great teaching ethics from parents, educators, and administrators, that I applied to my lessons. My colleagues chose me as "Teacher of the Year" in 1998. This was quite an honor, but the most rewarding thing about teaching is seeing a student set and reach their desired goals.
