EducationAmerican University - BA, Literature and Print Journalism
ExperienceI have a BA in Literature with a concentration in African-American Literature and Print Journalism from American University. I was also on the Dean's List. I am currently teaching reading comprehension, vocabulary, and creative/essay writing to students in grades 1-6. I am also working toward becoming certified to teach ESL classes to Austrian students who want to learn English. I am most qualified to tutor students in the areas of English and American Literature, from Phonics, and Grammar and Mechanics, all the way up to 12th Grade Reading and Writing. Back in high school, I struggled with my course work. I finally got the help I needed from skillful and helpful tutors, who really helped me turn my academic performance around, so I know the value that a good tutor provides, and I feel like I have a real understanding of the challenges and hurdles that students face. This perspective is one of my strongest assets, as I work to help my students overcome their own hurdles by creating a positive learning space, taking a friendly patient approach, and working to build confidence in my students, making sure they are engaged by the lesson. On my own time, I like to read, write poetry, hang out with my dog, and cook.
HobbiesIn my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing poetry, hiking, relaxing with my 11-year-old dog, and cooking.
