I am currently a graduate student in Special Education (Vanderbilt University, M.Ed) with a strong background in literature & writing (English B.A. University of Illinois).
Experience
Most recently, I've been trained & tutored in the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Reading Clinic. I enjoyed learning & using their systematic, research-based approach to support struggling readers. Before that, I volunteered as a reading tutor for students with special needs for two years. This was through Nashville's YMCA literacy program. During that time, I also helped to lead an adult literacy class that focused on reading and writing at a high school level. Literature has always been my passion. I've been a high school/college English tutor for nearly ten years (since the time I was in high school myself). While I lived in Chicago, I was a co-editor of my university's literary journal. After graduation, I was an editor and writer for a national music & arts magazine. My Tutoring Philosophy: I fully invest myself in every student I have the opportunity to teach. I tutor using research-based methods, and make individualized decisions based on the data I record to monitor each students' process. However, I also work to motivate everybody I tutor because I aim to leave them with skills that they can continue to use anywhere they go. To be able to do this, I also like to get to know my students as unique individuals so I can cater to their tastes and interests. My ambition has always been to guide students as they develop and utilize their education. I believe these efforts can help each person succeed in any future goals and professions. This is my ultimate goal as a tutor.

Hobbies
I love anything that involves culture, including film, music, visual art, and of course, literature. My specialty as an undergraduate was American Ethnic & Minority literature because it combined so many fields: history, sociology, psychology, ethics--you name it! I've been married for two years (no children so far), I'm an animal-lover, I like baking, running, hiking, and photography. I grew up in southern California, lived in Chicago for a long stretch, and now I've been in Nashville for four years.
