Education
I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelors in Journalism and a Minor Communications. Throughout my academic career I excelled in multiple advanced English, Literature, Creative Writing and Public Speaking courses. Journalism was my selected major, and for a while I believed it was my career path. I anchored and wrote news for Valley View News, a CSUN based news channel airing on channel 36 in the Greater Los Angeles area. Reporting on car crashes and LA fires quickly got old, and I wanted something that was more fulfilling. Prior to transferring to Cal. State Northridge, I attended Santa Monica College where I obtained an Associated Degree and discovered my love for education, academia and teaching.
Experience
In 2012 I volunteered as a tutor for FulfillmentFund.org, a nonprofit organization that assists underprivileged children in realizing and accomplishing their college goals. This was a life changing experience for me. I met wonderful young people who simply wanted a place they could feel safe to learn and a person who they could confide in to show them the way. I realized what a rewarding career choice teaching was. During my college career I worked as a part-time teacher & assistant at Early Explorers Childcare & Preschool. This was an incredible job. On a daily basis I lesson planned, developed schedules, kept records of children's progress, and organized activities that ensured children learn about the world and explore interests.
